There are a number of drug-free methods to help you stop smoking, including hypnosis and meditation. Meditation is something you can learn on your own, using books or recordings, or with instruction by a qualified teacher. It may be helpful in a number of ways as you learn to relax deeply, thereby calming any discomfort or anxiety you may be experiencing during the withdrawal process, and combating underlying stress that has contributed to your smoking habit in the first place.

Meditation primarily uses deep breathing techniques and guided imagery to calm a variety of physiological processes and promote a sense of inner peace and well-being. Some forms of meditation use the repetition of a phrase or mantra, others just focus on emptying the mind of all thought. The health benefits are numerous, as stress related conditions are at the root of many health problems. Some yoga and meditation teachers believe that learning to meditate even without focusing on quitting smoking will naturally alleviate the need to smoke, simply by calming and bringing balance to the body and mind.

The mind-body connection is one that has been studied in eastern medicine for thousands of years and is becoming increasingly accessible in the west, with growing interest in holistic and herbal health, acupuncture, acupressure, yoga, tai chi, and so on. Because smoking has social, psychological, behavioral and physiological components, it makes sense to incorporate different approaches into a comprehensive stop smoking plan.

Successfully quitting smoking is a different experience for everyone and will depend upon your preferences, determination and preparation. If other methods have not worked, don’t be afraid to try something new, and keep trying until you achieve your goal. With meditation, the benefits are so widespread that your health is sure to experience positive results and contribute to your efforts to quit smoking one way or another.

Consult with a professional to learn more about the applications of meditation to stop smoking. You may find that visualizing your way to success is easier than you would have imagined, and learn relaxation skills that you can use throughout your life to help you achieve optimal health in all areas. Information on meditation techniques can be found online, at the library, or through local practitioners. Look forward to becoming free from addiction and exploring all that life has to offer. Combined with other lifestyle changes such as healthy dietary choices and adequate rest and exercise, you can develop new habits to last a lifetime, and enjoy a quality of life that exceeds anything you’ve previously experienced. Find out what kind of natural highs you have been missing, and inspire others to do the same. You deserve the best in life.

The Guru Purnima How to Observe the Day (By: Prof. N. L. Shraman, The Memory Guru of India) Trainer, Motivator, Inventor, Consultants in Mental Memory and Speed Math

Hindus attach paramount importance to spiritual gurus. Gurus are often equated with God and always regarded as a link between the individual and the Immortal. Just as the moon shines by reflecting the light of the sun, and glorifies it, all disciples can dazzle like the moon by gaining from their Gurus.

What is Guru Purnima?

The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of Guru Purnima, a day sacred to the memory of the great sage Vyasa. All Hindus are indebted to this ancient saint who edited the four Vedas, wrote the 18 Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavata. Vyasa even taught Dattatreya, who is regarded as the Guru of Gurus.

Significance of Guru Purnima

On this day, all spiritual aspirants and devotees worship Vyasa in honor of his divine personage and all disciples perform a ‘puja’ of their respective spiritual preceptor or ‘Gurudevs’.

This day is of deep significance to the farmers, for it heralds the setting in of the much-needed rains, as the advent of cool showers usher in fresh life in the fields. It is a good time to begin your spiritual lessons. Traditionally, spiritual seekers commence to intensify their spiritual ’sadhana’ from this day.

The period ‘Chaturmas’ (“four months”) begins from this day. In the past, wandering spiritual masters and their disciples used to settle down at a place to study and discourse on the Brahma Sutras composed by Vyasa, and engage themselves in Vedantic discussions.

The Role of the Guru

Swami Sivananda asks: “Do you realize now the sacred significance and the supreme importance of the Guru’s role in the evolution of man? It was not without reason that the India of the past carefully tended and kept alive the lamp of Guru-Tattva. It is therefore not without reason that India, year after year, age after age, commemorates anew this ancient concept of the Guru, adores it and pays homage to it again and again, and thereby re-affirms its belief and allegiance to it. For, the true Indian knows that the Guru is the only guarantee for the individual to transcend the bondage of sorrow and death, and experience the Consciousness of the Reality.”

At the Sivananda Ashram, Rishikesh, the Guru Purnima is celebrated every year on a grand scale.

1. All aspirants awake at Brahmamuhurta, at 4 o’clock. They meditate on the Guru and chant his prayers.

2. Later in the day, the sacred worship of the Guru’s Feet is performed. Of this worship it is said in the Guru Gita:

Dhyaana moolam guror murtih;

Pooja moolam guror padam;

Mantra moolam guror vakyam;

Moksha moolam guror kripa

“The Guru’s form should be meditated upon; the feet of the Guru should be worshipped; his words are to be treated as a sacred Mantra; his Grace ensures final liberation”.

3. Sadhus and Sannyasins are then worshipped and fed at noon.

4. There is continuous Satsang during which discourses are held on the glory of devotion to the Guru in particular, and on spiritual topics in general.

5. Deserving aspirants are initiated into the Holy Order of Sannyas, as this is a highly auspicious occasion.

6. Devout disciples fast and spend the whole day in prayer. They also take fresh resolves for spiritual progress.

The Guru’s Advice

Swami Sivananda recommends: “Wake up at Brahmamuhurta (at 4 a.m.) on this most holy day. Meditate on the lotus feet of your Guru. Mentally pray to him for his Grace, through which alone you can attain Self-realisation. Do vigorous Japa and meditate in the early morning hours.

“After bath, worship the lotus feet of your Guru, or his image or picture with flowers, fruits, incense and camphor. Fast or take only milk and fruits the whole day.

In the afternoon, sit with other devotees of your Guru and discuss with them the glories and teachings of your Guru.

“Alternatively, you may observe the vow of silence and study the books or writings of your Guru, or mentally reflect upon his teachings. Take fresh resolves on this holy day, to tread the spiritual path in accordance with the precepts of your Guru.

“At night, assemble again with other devotees, and sing the Names of the Lord and the glories of your Guru. The best form of worship of the Guru is to follow his teachings, to shine as the very embodiment of his teachings, and to propagate his glory and his message.”

Who’s A Guru? All About the Hindu Spiritual Teacher

“Guru is Shiva sans his three eyes,

Vishnu sans his four arms

Brahma sans his four heads.

He is parama Shiva himself in human form”

~ Brahmanda Puran

Guru is the God, say the scriptures. Indeed, the ‘guru’ in Vedic tradition is looked upon as one no less than a God. ‘Guru’ is a honorific designation of a preceptor as defined and explained variously in the scriptures and ancient literary works including epics. The English word ‘guru’ has its

etymological origin in the Sanskrit term. The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Current English defines it as “Hindu spiritual teacher or head of religious sect; influential teacher; revered mentor”.

More Real Than Gods

Aren’t gurus more real than the gods? Basically the guru is a spiritual teacher leading the disciple on the path of “god-realization”. In essence, the guru is considered a respected person with saintly qualities who enlightens the mind of his disciple, an educator from whom one receives the initiatory mantra, and one who instructs in rituals and religious ceremonies. The Vishnu Smriti and Manu Smriti regards the Acharya (teacher), along with the mother and the father as the most venerable gurus of an individual. According to Deval Smriti there can be eleven kinds of gurus and according to Nama Chintamani ten. According to his functions he is categorized as rishi, acharyam, upadhya, kulapati or mantravetta.

The Guru’s Role

The Upanishads have profoundly underlined the role of the guru. Mundak Upanishad says to realize the supreme godhead holding samidha grass in his hands one should surrender himself before the guru who knows the secrets of Vedas. Kathopanishad too speaks of the guru as the preceptor who alone can guide the disciple on the spiritual path. Over time the guru’s syllabus gradually enlarged incorporating more secular and temporal subjects related to human endeavor and intellect. Apart from usual spiritual works his sphere of instruction now included subjects like Dhanurvidya (archery), Arthashastra (economics) and even Natyashastra (dramatics) and Kamashastra (sexology). Such was the ingenuity of the all pervading intellect of the ancient Acharyas that they perpetuated even shastra like thievery. Shudraka’s celebrated play Mricchakatikam tells the story of Acharya Kanakashakti who formulated the Chaurya Shastra, or the science of thievery, which was further developed by the gurus like Brahmanyadeva, Devavrata and Bhaskarnandin.

From Hermitages to Universities

Gradually the institution of Gurukula or in-forest-hermitage, where disciples learnt at the feet of guru for long years was evolved. The great urban universities at Takshashila, Vikramashila and Nalanda essentially evolved from these tiny gurukulas tucked away in deep woods. If we have to believe the records of Chinese travellers who visited Nalanda at that time, there were more than 1,500 teachers teaching various subjects to more than 10,000 students and monks.

Legends of Gurus & Desciples

There were gurus as well as disciples of different hues to whom references were made in scriptures and literary works. The most popular legend is that of the amazing young tribal boy Ekalavya on being rejected by the ace trainer Dronacharya, raised his statue and with great dedication practised the art of archery and left behind Arjuna, the master archer, who actually learnt the art under the living guru. And the heartless guru asked for his thumb as gurudakshina or fees, and made him inferior before his royal disciple. In the Chandogya Upanishad, we meet an aspiring disciple Satyakama, who refuses to tell lies about his caste in order to get an admission in the gurukula of Acharya Haridrumat Gautam. And in the Mahabharata we come across Karna who did not bat an eyelid while telling Parashurama that he belonged to the Bhrigu Brahmin caste just to obtain the Brahmastra, the supreme weapon.

Lasting Contribution

From generation to generation the institution of the guru has evolved various basic tenets of Indian culture and transmitted spiritual and fundamental knowledge. Gurus formed the axis of ancient educational system and ancient society, and enriched various fields of learning and culture by their creative thinking. Herein lies the lasting significance of gurus and their contribution to the upliftment of mankind.

Do you ever get stuck…you know…that feeling that something is holding you back? You can feel like that even when you are good at what you do–even when you are considered an expert in your field!

Do you love working one-on-one with your clients yet cringe at the thought of networking, meeting new people, speaking or giving presentations?

Maybe you flinch every time you even think about getting yourself out there, doing online marketing activities; writing website copy, newsletters or blogs.

Do you hesitate when it comes to planning, or implementing organizational systems in your office or on your computer?

And how about self-care? Do you ever get around to putting yourself at the top of your to-do list?

As I was reflecting on the positive benefits and support I received from my own business coaches this past year, I realized how important it is to make sure that we’re being coached at the level that matches our needs.

What do I mean by “level”? I’ll explain. What I’m sharing here is an NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) model that identifies various Logical Levels to your success. I prefer to call these Soul Leves to your success because the soul loves balance and harmony and this model is all about creating balance.

This model starts at the bottom level with Environment and moves up to the top level of Spirituality.

Soul Levels to Your Success

Spirituality- Higher purpose; mission? Remembering your magnificence and why you are here.

Identity- Who am I? I am totally accepted, I am loved, I am worthy, I am pure positive energy.

Beliefs – Values- Why? Why things are important to you. Believing that you offer value to others.

Capabilities- How? How to, what are you drawing on? Past successes, courage.

Behavior- What? What action will you take: follow through, ask questions, research, take responsibility, show up 100%.

Environment- Where do you want to experience it? When do you want to receive it?

As a woman entrepreneur, you move from one level to the next as you work on a current project or just contemplate your next task and that’s the way it’s meant to be.

Here’s an example of what I mean. Let’s say you begin thinking about attracting more clients. You want to be of service to more people and you also want to attract more money.

Start at the Environment level. You love your office and the physical surroundings you have now so all is well in that area. You’ve been taking lots of action as you follow leads and new ideas so your Behavior level is also fine. So what about the next level of Capabilities? Do you have all of the resources, connections and know how you need?

Take a few moments to quiet your mind and tune into any insights, mental images, words of wisdom or other communication from your soul. In other words, pay attention to your gut feelings.

Perhaps deep down there is be a belief that no one will hire you or buy your products because the economy is poor. This is simply a Belief and is not necessarily true. Beliefs are not based on logic and your current beliefs can create misalignment and conflict within you. My personal experience has shown me that the sooner I identify where I’m stuck, or in conflict, and get some coaching, the sooner I am able to achieve more goals for my business.

There was a time recently when I had two business coaches for two very specific purposes. Shortly after I started working with the second coach, it felt as though something wasn’t quite right (but I couldn’t put my finger on it). She was a brilliant coach, an expert in her field, I really liked her and she had lots to offer me. I eventually figured out that I was being coached at the wrong level. I was being coached at the Capabilities level when what I needed was coaching at the Belief level. Whew…what a relief it was to sort that out.

I quickly took action and created a new, more empowering belief. I ended that coaching relationship and saved myself a considerable amount of money and time.

Many of us have times when we feel stuck, our confidence wavers or we struggle because overwhelm and conflicting beliefs bog us down. When you decide to change all of that, make sure you’re receiving help and support at the right level. You wouldn’t go to a web developer to help you release a fear of marketing and you wouldn’t go to a coach that specializes in belief changes if you needed help automating your online systems.

Here’s an exercise for you to experiment with:

1. Lighten up…bring out your magic wand and get ready to create some entrepreneurial magic.

2. Take a moment to decide what you really, really want. Choose a desire that you have right now.

3. Now start at the level of Environment and slowly move up the levels. Notice if you are in alignment with each of these Soul Levels or is there a level that brings feelings of resistance, doubt or overwhelm.

Your Environment, Behavior, and Capabilities need to align with your Beliefs. Having a clear sense of your Identity and understanding your higher Spiritual purpose is equally important too.

This NLP for the soul model helps you to identify areas where there are interferences and where you are out of balance.

So come on, step into your brilliance and share your gifts with the people who are waiting for your products and services. Use this model. If you identify an imbalance or want to change beliefs from “I can’t” to “I can,” or “what’s the use” to “of course it’s possible,” then I invite you to attend one of my upcoming events or ask me about private coaching.

Releasing limiting beliefs and creating new beliefs is my specialty. Join me and have a direct, hands-on experience of getting unstuck and re-aligned at your soul level of beliefs.

Beliefs are a matter of choice so it’s important you choose good ones that make your life and business more prosperous, more successful and a whole lot more fun!

Come and experience the wonderful sensation of being back in the flow and leave knowing you are able to launch yourself back into your business aligned, balanced and ready for new business growth and renewed passion.

Woman body is wonderfully complex and delicate. She play multiple role in her life like mother, daughter, wife, homemaker is physically and mentally quite taxing. Because of her special reproductive role, she is at risk of some female disorders.

Ayurveda is a health care system sensitive to women’s special health needs. Women are far more sensitive to the rhythms and cycles of nature and Ayurveda is founded on the principle of keeping the body toned in tune with nature. And naturally women find Ayurveda very suitable.

Ayurveda literally means “science of life and longevity.” and is considered to be the traditional system of medicine of India. Ayurveda is a science in the sense that it is a complete system. It is a qualitative, holistic science of health and longevity, a philosophy and system of healing the whole person, body and mind. The origin of this system goes back to a far past, in which philosophy and medicine were not separated. Therefore, philosophical views have strongly influenced the Ayurvedic way of thinking.

Ayurvedic treatment is useful to remove the root cause and give permanent relief. There are four main classifications of managements of disease in ayurveda: shodan, or cleansing; shaman or palliation; rasayana, or rejuvenation; and satvajaya, or mental hygiene.

The treatment mainly comprises of powders, tablets, decoctions, medicated oils etc. prepared from natural herbs, plants and minerals. Because the medicines are from natural sources and not synthetic, they are accepted and assimilated in the body without creating any side effects and on the other hand, there may be some side benefits.

Along with medicine, proper diet, exercise and living style is also advised. This is equally important. If we are taking a medicine to remove the root cause and at the same time we are taking some food or following a life style which is increasing the cause of disease, then we may not get well or will be getting less relief.

Dietary Regimen:- Proper selection of diet is necessary to avoid dosha imbalance and is also used as a treatment in many diseases.

Exercise Selection of proper exercise plays an important role in the treatment in disease.

Panch Karma therapy is also used as a treatment in many diseases. This “panchkarma” or five internal cleansing methods, is a most profound therapy in Ayurveda.

Yoga:-Ayurveda teaches a very systematic and scientific way of life which is important to pursue both materially and spiritually.

Ayurveda can work miracles. Ayurvedic healthcare is the perfect solution for women to stop the aging process. Periodic rejuvenation therapy will keep health, beauty and zest intact throughout the years.

Cholesterol used to be a word of terror for people. Cholesterol is present in cell membranes and transported through blood plasma.

Cholesterol is produced inside body at the liver. The food we take also contains varying amounts of cholesterol. The body has a system to speed up or reduce cholesterol production in accordance with dietary intake.

There are two types of cholesterol – low-density lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein. LDL is considered bad cholesterol and HDL is good cholesterol.

When the levels of LDL become high in blood, the LDL cholesterol gets deposited in blood vessel walls. Arteries become thickened or hardened (arteriosclerosis) and block the free passage of blood. This increases blood pressure and leads to cardio vascular diseases including heart attack.

Another version of LDL is Lp(a). Lp(a) is a variation of LDL, which increase the risk of arteriosclerosis (thickening of blood vessels walls by deposition of fat).

Excess cholesterol levels in blood must be checked with a healthy lifestyle and diet. Daily exercise and keeping your body fit can help reduce LDL levels and increase HDL levels in blood.

Include more vegetarian food in your daily menu. Our body produces enough amounts of cholesterol. If the body is supplemented with excess food in the form of fatty good, you can expect an accumulation of unwanted cholesterol in your body. The extra intake and alter the natural balance in cholesterol production by liver.

Moderate use of alcohol does have a positive effect on blood cholesterol levels. If alcohol consumption gets out of control, it will bring many serious health issues.

Some Ayurvedic home remedies for excess cholesterol include garlic (Allium sativum), Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna), Guggul (Commiphora mukul) etc.

Stress symptoms can range anywhere from undereating to overeating, sleeping to much to sleeping to little, constant worrying to unhappiness and depression.

Stress can effect every part of the body and produce negative physical, mental and emotional symptoms. One biological effect of chronic stress is weight gain. Weight loss can be an even bigger challenge for people with chronic stress.

Chronic stress-in tandem with a junk food diet-can lay fat on your belly. Scientist at George town University Medical Center in Washington and in Australia and Slovakia have shown in mice that stress activates the hormone neuropeptide Y (NPY), which leads to fat accumulation.

The findings, in July’s Nature Medicine have raised hopes that NPY could be manipulated to treat obesity. Source: AARP BULLETIN

With all the new research pointing towards an obesity epidemic here in America, parallels can also be drawn between the relationship of unhealthy lifestyles and stress. People tend to take worst care of themselves due to their apathetic and pessimistic outlook on life when they are stressed out, which in turn will cause lack of motivation to exercise or be active and eat right, so stress management is vital for optimal health and well-being.

Most people spend their lives avoiding pain and seeking pleasure in order to find that comfort zone where stress is best well managed. If we fall out of that comfort zone due to a stressful situation or event, we reach for something to make us feel better like sugary foods, or a drink and a smoke etc.

More people are leaning towards natural remedies, free of drugs or quick fix solutions that uaually fail in the long run.

Exercise in itself can relieve stress by releasing chemicals (endorphines) in the brain that will put you in an uplifting mood. But exercise alone won’t cure stress related weight gain, you also need to want to take better care of yourself with healthier food choices, plus a mental and emotional transformation.

Sometimes out of the ordinary natural remedies are best and hypnosis and yoga are becoming a mainstream solution to relieve people from stress related weight gain and every day anxiety symptoms, especially since both can be taught and performed alone and at home.

Unfortunately, many individuals have a hard time sticking to a conventional diet, especially since it usually involves elliminating a lot of your favorite foods and requires a lot of dedication not only to a strict diet but a full healthy diet program needs to include exercise also.

Hypnosis and yoga are both being recognized for their general health and curative benefits for stress symptoms such as emotional overeating or the inability to get motivated for exercise or physical activity.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness, in which you enter a trance-like state.

Hypnosis only works on willing participants and your success will depend entirely on your desire to achieve your treatment goal.

During hypnosis, you are fully awake, even though you are unaware of what is going on around you. It’s similar to when you daydream or become totally immersed in a book or movie.

For many years hypnosis was frowned down upon as a theatrical parlor trick exploited by charlatans, but western medicine has shown a fascination in its potential and has since become a useful tool in helping people lose weight, quit smoking, help relieve chronic pain and also used to motivate or extinguish phobias and fears.

The root of success with hypnosis for weight loss is by altering your state of mind that will elliminate food cravings and make you want to take care of yourself by eating healthy foods and staying away from the fattening foods plus a sudden desire to exercise and get physically active.

There is no magic to hypnosis, only the individuals use of a natural physical state that influences your subconscious that is only effective if it’s something you truly desire.

What Is Yoga?

Yoga is a system of holistic health originating in India over 5000 years ago. Yoga is the practice of balancing the mind, body and spirit enabeling the participants to feel more powerful, confident and balanced.

There are many forms of yoga, with Hatha encompassing the many physical types of yoga. “Ashtanga”, which means “eight limbs”, being the most physical-kind, linking “asanas” (postures) that are both physical and powerful.

A more modern term used today is “Power Yoga” and is being utilized in many of the gyms and workout classes in America due to it’s vigorous and physically demanding constant poses. Because of the constant movement (flow) Power Yoga helps fortify both mind and body while increasing your heart rate and your flexibility.

For a complete fitness regimen of yoga only, it must be vigouros enough and long enough to have a cardio, fat burning, weight loss result.

With the stress relief and physical benefits associated with yoga and exercise, many people are combining yoga with other forms of exercise such as aerobics, walking and many other forms of fat burning activity workouts.

Yoga also needs to be performed on a regular basis to have a long term lasting effect. And similar to starting an exercise regimen for the first time, you will need to perform less intense yoga poses in the beginning, so you dont’ hurt yourself.

So, both hypnosis and yoga are truly effective alternatives to supplements and drugs for weight loss or any stress symptom, providing a deep willingness is present . The rewards will be proportionate to your efforts.

Ayurveda is the Sanskrit work meaning “knowledge of life” and Ayurvedic Medicine is an alternative form of medicine. It is a traditional Indian medicine which scholars are still not sure about when it actually began, but the general consensus is that it began between 4,000 to 5,000 years ago. In fact scholars are now saying that Ayurvedic Medicine is the oldest form of medicine around and were influenced by both Greek and Traditional Chinese medicine. Because of this claim Ayurvedic Medicine has become labeled the “Mother of all Healing”. It is the art of balance and longevity for the human body.

Understanding Ayurvedic Medicine in the beginning is difficult because of all the “strange terminologies” that are associated with it. But once someone has got used to these it does become much easier to understand.

Ayurveda has it roots in an ancient religion and that religion is Hinduism. In the beginning and for many years the practices of Ayurveda were passed down by word of mouth. When people first began to write down the practices of Ayurveda it was written on to palm leaves and then later on people began to write it down on to manuscripts. These medical manuals are known as the “Charaka Samhita” and the “Sushruta Samhita” and are rooted in early Vedic culture. The Vedic culture is inherently spiritual and focuses on love, philosophy and “Universal Truths”.

In Ayurveda a person is not just seen as a body and mind but rather as an entity that includes a spiritual dimension and if you wish to live in harmony with the cosmic law you will live the Ayurvedic way of life.

As far as Ayurvedic Medicine is concerned we are all created by the cosmos as either a male energy (Purusha) or a female energy (Prakruti). Whilst the Purusha is passive awareness the Prakruti is an active consciousness. Ayurvedic Medicine is holistic in its concepts as it tries to maintain the balance between the body, mind and spirit of a person. This can be done though the person having the right thoughts, diet and lifestyle. According to Ayurvedic Medicine the body is composed of 5 basic elements which are called the Panchamahabhootas and this is then divided as follows Space – Akasha, Air – Vayu, Water – Apa, Fire – Tejas and Earth – Prithvi.

Where Ayurvedic Medicine is concerned it is imperative that you understand what brings about the balance and what causes an unbalance in a person. It is not just physically, mentally and socially that we have to be in harmony but also spiritually as well. Whether there is an increase or decrease in any of the qualities of the doshas will cause an imbalance. An imbalance can be caused due to time or age (although they do not cause many problems) these problems can be easily rectified. Whilst in the case of an unnatural imbalance and where the problems may be more serious then more attention will need to be applied to achieve the right balance. Such imbalances may be caused due to an inappropriate diet or lifestyle or a traumatic experience or a virus that you have caught.

Ayurvedic Medicine consists of many different components which help to bring the doshas back into balance and some such treatments may include meditation, herbal preparation, diet, pulse diagnosis and yoga. Ayurvedic Medicine is made from herbs or a mixture of herbs and will be a combination of one or more of the following:-

Herbs

Minerals

Metals

Animals

Though Ayurvedic Medicine is still being looked at with some skeptism when practiced in the West it has been said to be rather successful when dealing with digestive disorders, skin problems, gynecological problems and alleviating problems related to congested sinuses and stress.

nd exercising a boring activity? Do you want to remain fit but are never able to follow the exercise plans strictly? Then Wii fit is what you need. This gaming exercise transforms the boring task of exercising into a fun activity.

Wii fit is basically a video game that is the brainchild of Nintendo for the console of Wii. The concept of this game is based solely upon the exercise activities by using the peripheral of WII Balance Board.

Under this, the board of balance first measures the user’s gravitational centre of body along with their weight. The software calculates the index of body mass index depending upon the height of the user. This interesting game consists of about 40 physical activities such as push ups and yoga among others that can be enjoyed immensely by the person. The best part of the game is that players can compare their fitness progress through the channel that gives all the related details on the wii menu.

Following are some of the advantages that are inherently attached with these gaming exercises:

- Simple aerobics: The Wii video game system of Nintendo is simply like aerobics. It’s so exciting and can make anyone stand up on their feet for exercising. These gaming exercises are especially beneficial for the obese patients or sedentary individuals/patients as these games will assist them to enhance their stamina. The best thing is that you enjoy along with exercising.

- Stability training: These exercises can do wonders for the fitness level of the user. The fact of the matter is that these exercises can let them maintain their balance without using cane or walker. The arms movement in the multiple planes will also help them to test their balance at different postures.

- Core strength: These sport games are well known for their fun factor and are a big hit among users for their benefit of increasing the core strength. The physical movement that is done through exercises substantially increases the core stability of a person.

- Strength training: Through these physical work outs, one can hope to build strong muscles. This all can be done in the fun filled environment.

- Balance: The amazing Wii fit will make exercise an important part of your lifestyle where the peripheral board of balance is the main attraction. With the board playing the role of a scale, force plate and BMI reader, one can also get the idea of even small variations in terms of stability and can be alerted instantly of any changes taking place in their fitness levels.

- Exercise plan: The Wii fit is programmed to keep a record of all your exercise plans including yoga and Pilate’s program by displaying them in technical clips along with the onscreen cues. It also helps to keep you aware of your entire exercise regime and put focus on those areas of the body that need maximum attention. So, in short it can be said it acts like a professional trainer who can help you to stay fit and remain in shape.

Another advantage of this excellent game is that the player can track their fitness age by undergoing a body test, which determines the outcome on the basis of balance, weight and age.

The popularization of yoga in the West by yoga schools influenced by the Yoga Sutras Of Patanjali (2nd century BC), have almost led to the origins of yoga being linked with Patanjali in the Western mind. In fact, the earliest illustration we have of yoga is from the Mohenjo-daro seals. Mohenjo-Daro is the remains of an ancient city located in Pakistan, part of the Indus Valley civilization which existed along the Indus river and Ghaggar-Hakra river in north-west India and what is now Pakistan. Mohenjo-Daro’s parent city was Harrapa in India.

These civilizations have been dated from 3300 BC to 1300 BC. At one stage they were thought to have suddenly ended due to an Aryan invasion, though archaeologists now believe it was more likely due to climate change. Ultimately though, nothing is certain in the world of archaeology, at least until the next find, or developments in science.

The Mohenjo-daro seals show a figure standing on its head, and another sitting cross legged.

However, some see yoga’s origins as being from the Vedic shastras, or vedic religious texts, which are the foundation of Indian Hinduism. The Vedic texts were created from 500 BC, and the Rigveda is believed to have been completed by 1500 BC. The Rigveda is one of several principle early vedic texts. The Rigveda, Samaveda, and Yajurveda were used by the Brahmins, a caste that were usually priests, or allowed to be priests, in the days when the caste system originated.

A lot of these texts were concerned with sacrificial rituals. There are sacrificial prayers, incantations, and elements related to magic, to name a few aspects of the subject matter. These are now viewed symbolically, or philosophically, although they were presumably intended more literally at the time. But the word “yoga” was discussed in the RigVeda. In it, there is mention of ‘yoking’ our mind and insight to the ‘Sun Of Truth’ (David Frawley, a Vedic scholar).

Yoga is also discussed in the Bhagavad Gita, where Krishna describes 4 types of yoga:

* selfless action – in following one’s soul path, one’s dharma, first and foremost, and without thinking of the outcome, the end result, or being motivated by self gain (Karma Yoga) * self transcending knowledge (Jnana yoga) * psycho-physical meditation (Raja yoga) * devotion – loving service to the Divine Essence (Bhakti yoga) (Source – Wikipedia)

The Bhagavad Gita is believed to have been written between the 5th and 2nd century BC. In the Gita, the goal of yoga is the realization of Brahman, or the Divine Essence. Whilst the paths to achieve this for individuals may be different, the essence of coming to an unequivocable knowing of the Oneness of the Divine, and oneself within this fundamental reality, is the same.

“The Gita addresses the discord between the senses and the intuition of cosmic order. It speaks of the Yoga of equanimity, a detached outlook. The term Yoga covers a wide range of meanings, but in the context of the Bhagavad Gita, describes a unified outlook, serenity of mind, skill in action, and the ability to stay attuned to the glory of the Self (Atman), which is of the same essence as the basis of Being (Brahman).” (Wikipedia)
